FAQ

Translation

My daily output is up to 2,500 words per day, depending on the project and availability. If you would like to find out how long your specific project will take, please get in touch with your requirements for a free, no-obligation quote. I will get back to you within 24 hours.

The process is simple. All you need to do is send your document with your proposed deadline so that I can assess it, provide you with an accurate quote, and we can then agree the deadline.

I will start the translation as soon as you approve the quote and I receive your purchase order (PO). You will receive the translation on or before the agreed date.

If you are a new client you may need to make an upfront payment when we start the project and pay the rest upon completion, unless we agree something different from the beginning.

To translate your document to the highest standard, I follow a three-step translation process aligned with my quality control procedure:

Step 1. Analysing your document

As an initial step, I carefully analyse your document in order to:

  • identify the type of text, the genre, its features, characteristics, register, tone and style
  • identify the purpose of the text and the audience

Step 2. Translating the content

Once the purpose and target audience are identified I start translating your content. In order to produce a smooth and accurate translation which brings you results I:

  • use my analytical skillsto choose the most suitable translation strategies
  • use my research skillsto select the most appropriate terminology, find relevant parallel texts, linguistic corpora tools, specialised glossaries and dictionaries
  • use my IT skillsto ensure consistency and time efficiency
  • use my linguistic skillsto communicate your message effectively and in a natural way
  • use my common senseto make sure the text is appropriate for the intended audience according to the purpose

Step 3. Polishing the translation and delivering on time

Once the translation is completed, and as a quality control procedure, I carry out the final polishing where I:

  • proofread the document at least twice to ensure accuracy and readability (a quality procedure known as translator-revised translation)
  • edit and polish the final document to enhance naturalness (known as translator revised and additionally polished translation for publication)

I then deliver on time.

With this three-step process you can rest assured that your translation will be of the highest quality. You can relax knowing that I only accept translation work that I know I can translate to the highest standard.

All projects vary in terms of length, subject area, file type, formatting and urgency, so I always assess each one on a case-by-case basis to provide you with a personalised quote. It would be my pleasure! I strongly believe in giving back and I am always happy to use my skills to support those who help make the world a better place to live. Proofreading

Proofreading involves checking a Spanish translation against its original English text to make sure the translation is accurate, reads well, reflects the correct terminology and conveys the right tone and style according to the purpose, type of text and intended audience.

As part of my proofreading services I can make sure that your Spanish translation:

  • reflects the message of the source text accurately
  • includes all the elements of the original message
  • reads smoothly and naturally
  • has a tone suited to the audience
  • reflects the right style according to the text genre
  • uses the correct terminology
  • does not contain grammatical, spelling and punctuation mistakes

If you would like a free, no-obligation quote, please send me your original text in English along with your Spanish translation to assess the documents. I will get back to you shortly.

If you already have a Spanish translation you may need a second translator to proofread your text. Not all translations need to be proofread by a second professional, however, it is always advisable. It all depends on the purpose of the text and its importance.

If you already have a Spanish translation and would like me to proofread it, please get in touch.

Proofreading times vary depending on length, subject area, degree of specialisation, file type, formatting, urgency, and the quality of the existing translation. As an average, I can proofread 1,000 words per hour if it is a non-specialist text in a Word document.
Nonetheless, every project is unique, so if you would like to find out how long your specific project will take, please get in touch with your texts and preferred deadline. I will get back to you shortly.

Transcription

Transcription involves listening to a recording or audio file and typing up the contents into a document to have a written record of what is on the recording. This can be an interview, a research study, a business presentation, a conference, a lecture, a video, a podcast, etc.

In order to maximise efficiency I use a professional audio player software for PC, which is designed to assist the transcription of audio recordings. Its functional hot keys on the keyboard allow me replay, speed up or slow down the recording as many times as I like, improving my productivity.

If you need a hand transcribing your audio file, please get in touch with your requirements, attaching your file. I will assess the project and get back to you shortly with a free, no-obligation quote.

My software supports WAV, WMA, AIFF, MP2, VOX, MP4 and MP3 formats. The typed text will be returned to you in a Word document.

Every project is unique. The time it takes to transcribe a recording varies depending on several factors:

  • the quality of the audio
  • the number of speakers
  • the speed at which the speakers are talking
  • the clarity and accents involved

With a clear audio file, with one speaker, a neutral accent and a moderate speed, it takes about five minutes to transcribe one audio minute. If you would like to find out how long your specific project will take, please send over your file and requirements. I will get back to you shortly with a free, no-obligation quote.

All projects vary. The cost depends on how long the script is (number of words), how long the audio lasts (in minutes) or how long the finished audio takes to produce (including recording and editing times). I can charge per hour or number of words. Please get in touch for a free, no-obligation quote.

If you require me to visit a different recording studio, travel and other charges may apply. Please send me an email to discuss your particular needs.

Finished audio is the total duration of the voiceover file, as opposed to the time it took to record it and edit it.

Yes. I can offer you a combined package, including the translation of an audio file or script, and then do the voiceover. Please get in touch to find out more.
